THE CAPE COD WE CALL HOME ...
The residents of Cape Cod live in such a fragile environment.
The air we breath is clean; the water we drink is from the earth. The
land is so fragile and so protected. The Cape Cod Commission
was established several years ago to monitor, restrict and oversee
development of Cape Cod.
We’ll see no more sprawling malls — no more mass development.
We have a “Land Bank” — Cape Wide. Residents
are taxed a very small percentage of their property assessment
with
the
sole purpose of purchasing “open space”, protecting
the environment from over -development and protecting the environment
for future generations.
It seems we’ve learned from the past
- and our mission is to protect the future. The Terns and Piping
Plovers nest on
the shores of the Cape beaches. The salt marshes are delicate
and produce millions of animal and plant life. Our dunes
are ever so fragile, subjected to severe winds and storm. The
tall sea grasses help protect these magnificent dunes.
Our beautiful ponds and wetlands are protected by Conservation
and the Wetlands Protection Act. These ponds and wetlands are
home to some of the rarest species - animal or floral.
For those of us who have moved to The Cape, we’ve come
to love and appreciate, respect and protect this very beautiful
environment - for it is like no other.
For
those coming to The Cape to call it “home”, let
me welcome you to its incredible beauty.
